When I was a little boy, my uncle took me to the dojo he trained at. I would watch him spar with others and would be amazed at how good he was. Every time I would see him kick or block or punch his opponent, I would start clapping. But, whenever I would do that, my uncle would look up at me and shake his head or his hand, telling me not to do that. On our way home I asked him why did he tell me to stop cheering for him? He said to me that it wasn’t a competition, it was just practice and my applause was a distraction. I asked him could he teach me how to fight like him and he told me that I was too young. At that time, I was only 5 years old. As I got older, I realized back then, when older people told you to wait till you get older meant, I don’t want to because I don’t have the patience.
More Than Fighting Skills
I had no idea that there were different styles of martial arts let alone, different reasons as to why people have studied it. I always thought all of it was just karate. I never went into specifics about it because I just wanted to learn so I could beat up the kids in the neighborhood who used to make fun of me because of my size and my name. The first movie I saw was with Bruce Lee. It was like everybody saw the movie and started doing karate, so I thought. You had parents sending their children to karate schools that were popping up all over the neighborhood to learn from people who had learned from other karate movies. This pretty much went on until I went to a private school where I started to learn the different styles of fighting such as
• Kung Fu
• Karate
• Jujitsu
• Kick Boxing
That is when I started building confidence within myself while making new friends. Everyday my friends and I would practice inside and outside of the school. The school wasn’t just big on academic studies. It was also big on everyone, teachers, and students learning discipline and self-control which is why our gym classes were always about self-defense and everything you could benefit from learning it.
The One Thing Lacking In Children Today
In the school I went to, parents gave permission to the school to keep us in line by any means necessary which meant they had permission to discipline us when needed which they had no problem with. If you didn’t do your homework, you would get one or two wacks with a belt across your backside which was a whole lot less than what your parents would have given, or two wacks on your hands with the ruler. But, for messing around in class or caught in the hallway without a pass, they would have you hold books in your hands with your arms straight out or have you do jumping jacks or push-ups until they tell you to sit down. In the hall without a pass where the physical education teacher was the monitor at he might have you do both until your class is over or your teacher comes out to get you. At that time I thought it was a lot sometimes to go through. But, since I left the school at the age of 12, I still practice those teachings on myself and have done some of those methods on my own son and now that he is grown, we joke about some of the things I used to have him do, but he also thanks me for it every time we speak, find out more information here. I wish I could have sent him to martial arts school so he could have learned more of the fighting aspects of it, but I’m glad he allowed me to teach him some and I am proud of the man he has become today.
A Way Of Helping Your Kids Become Focused
When a parent sends their child to a school as I had attended with the teachings I received, not only do they teach your kids how to defend themselves, but they also help them to become one with themselves spiritually and with the time you will see the difference in your child’s behavior. They won’t be so disobedient because it is something that they are learning which is, certain behaviors of theirs don’t work and will not be accepted. As parents, all you have to do is work with them and be consistent with some of the philosophies of their training process. These places know how to make even time out or meditation a productive process.
I started to worry less about my son behaving because every day he would experience what I was teaching him and why I still had him do school work after school, putting in the physical workout I would have him do. A lot of parents don’t take that time out or have the time to do that, see best office cleaning services in charlotte nc. They too lack the discipline of doing what it takes to help their children to succeed. But, a lot of those same parents are the ones who are sending their children to these places especially, the parents who work and want their children to gain confidence at an early age. That is why I always recommend martial arts schools to everyone I know as soon as they have kids.
Times have changed and the way things are now, we should want our children to have some of our old traditions taught to them in an enlightening way. Learning from professionals, the art of fighting doesn’t mean that is all they are going to get from these schools. These places can truly help kids build the confidence they need to strive for a bigger and better life with pride.
